French Silk Evening Clutch with Jeweled Frame (c. 1940s–1950s)
Date: c. 1940s–1950s
Materials: Woven silk textile, engraved gilt metal frame with garnet-colored cabochons, original silk-lined interior with matching vanity mirror
Dimensions: 9" W × 4.5" H
Condition: Good vintage condition with light age-related discoloration to the silk exterior, most noticeable along one side panel. The engraved gilt frame retains a beautiful warm patina. Interior is clean with light wear. Original matching mirror is present with age-related foxing consistent with vintage use.
Description
A beautifully crafted French evening clutch dating to the mid-twentieth century, woven in ivory silk with an elegant Provençal-inspired floral motif. The engraved gilt frame is adorned with deep garnet-colored cabochons and opens with an uncommon lift-corner mechanism, showcasing the thoughtful craftsmanship characteristic of fine French accessories of the period.
The interior remains beautifully preserved, retaining its original silk lining, two slip pockets, and the original matching vanity mirror tucked inside its coordinating silk pouch—a detail that is often missing and increasingly difficult to find intact.
Measuring 9 inches wide by 4.5 inches high, the clutch is generously sized for an evening bag while maintaining a refined, elegant silhouette. Its rich textile, sculptural frame, and original accessories make it equally striking carried for special occasions or displayed as part of a thoughtfully collected interior.
Selected for its exceptional detailing, original mirror, and timeless French craftsmanship, this is a beautifully preserved piece that embodies the romance and elegance of vintage evening accessories.
